SCHOOLS-LED ACTIVITIES FOR OR BEFORE FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT

Fairtrade Groups
A simple school-led way to help advertise the caring ethos of schools and churches

As well as decorating the inside of a school or college...

At Winkfield St Mary's Primary in Berkshire,
10-metre bought-in strings of Fairtrade bunting
decorated the hall for an assembly in March 2012.
The school inspired Speak Out for Fairtrade!

School-made bunting for a the Big Brew morning
at St Margaret Ward Catholic Primary in Trafford, Manchester.

at St Mary's plays the part of a grower feeling the benefit
of being in on Fairtrade.  A typical Traidcraft customer (left) has made sure that fair money went down the line..

And here's the October 2011 display put up
in the hall at Milngavie Primary School in
East Dunbarton, Scotland

Speak out to the eyes of everyone passing the outside of schools and churches

Dress the outside of your school and local Fairtrade church with banners or bunting - to show all those passers-by that your communities have values that you're proud of

Not all schools and churches are next door to each - but a team sent along

The cloth banner shown here was hand-made at
St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School in South Ascot,
and pinned up by the school gate. For many weeks,
it was there to catch the eye of visitors and passers-by.

The banner was supplemented with
ready-made 10-metre lengths of Fairtrade bunting -
strung along the school fence and on to the outside
of the church next door.

"We’re all for Fairtrade"
makes a good general-purpose banner
to link schools and churches

And speak out to eyes, hearts and minds inside a Fairtrade church or faith centre
with pupil-made bunting or other displays

to remind and thank congregations about the great contribution they can make to social justice around the world

At St Francis Primary, every one of the 200+ pupils
created their own personal design on triangles of cotton -
including their own messages for all to read.

The Chair of the PTA then spent an evening (thanks!)
sewing them together ready to be draped around
the inside St Francis church next door -
for many years a Fairtrade Church.

The bunting stayed up for four weeks - until Easter.
Parishioners in the pews were able to admire the children’s handiwork close-up, and even stooped their heads in respect...

Since being taken down, the bunting has been stored
as a memento of the happy work of the whole school.
