It's not really a St Francis-alone J&P activity - though we've played a leading part in encouraging others to get together, resulting in this open-to-all activity.

There's no Churches Together in the Ascot, Sunninghill, Sunningdale, Windlesham, Bagshot or Englefield Green area. So we took the initiative to nudge things a bit. Justice & Peace is the term used by the Catholic Church as a peg for its many works for social justice. But you'll know that many other denominations have their own forms - with many good ideas to air and share.

So we thought it a good idea for St Francis J&P to have some informal meet-up with representatives of other churches (and schools) in and around Ascot - just to compare notes, exchange experience and angles, and perhaps see whether there might perhaps be something on which we might have a united action.  We had a very warm response from local CofE churches for a start.

From that, a bigger idea developed.

At St John the Baptist in Windlesham, Rev Jonathan Hillman introduced Hugh Gibbons to a parishioner with a particularly keen interest in social justice issues in the Anglican church - and whose activities had included workshops for new bishops at their annual Conference. She told Hugh that she was also very keen on getting local churches together - and schools!

They then drafted a concept for a larger Saturday meeting on 13th October - set in a school, and being as open as possible to everyone around. And, appropriately, it's a few days before the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
